Defenders of the Land is a network of Indigenous Communities united in defense of our lands, Indigenous rights, and Mother Earth. more »
Defenders of the Land was founded in a historic meeting in Winnipeg in 2008, bringing together for the first time grassroots activists, elders, elected leaders, youth, women, and men engaged in front line struggles for land and Indigenous rights. Defenders is the only organization of its kind in the territory known as Canada - Indigenous-led, free of government or corporate funding, and dedicated to building a fundamental movement for Indigenous rights. We will be holding a second gathering this year, where we will decide on collective action and a strategy to build the movement through education and organizing.
As a grassroots network, we rely on generous donations to do our work. The more individuals and organizations can support the work of Defenders, the more work we can do to build a movement for Indigenous rights that will transform relations between Canada and Indigenous Peoples.
